Our favourite Restaurants in

Naples, Italy

Sorbillo

Gino Sorbillo Pizzeria in Naples is one of the most renowned and beloved pizzerias in all of Italy. Located in the heart of the historic city center, this family-owned establishment has been serving up delicious, traditional Neapolitan-style pizza since 1935.

Their pizza is fantastic and one of our favourites in Naples. There is often a significant queue at lunchtime, but if you head there later in the afternoon you may not even have to wait. Despite its fame and popularity, Gino Sorbillo Pizzeria maintains a relaxed and casual atmosphere, and very reasonable prices.

Our favourites:
  • Pizza Margherita ~€6
  • Pizza Diavolla ~€7
  • A nice 50cl bottle of Falanghina to share ~€12

Osteria Il Gobbetto

Osteria Il Gobbetto is a charming family-run restaurant located in the historic center of Naples, Italy. We'd recommend to book a table a couple of days in advance, as the restaurant gets very busy. The lovely owner (you'll spot him in his very fancy pantaloons) is super friendly and speaks English.

This cosy eatery is known for its delicious, homemade cuisine, which showcases the flavors and ingredients of the Campania region. The menu at Osteria Il Gobbetto features a variety of traditional dishes, including fresh seafood, homemade pastas, and locally-sourced meats. Guests can start their meal with a plate of antipasti (which we always get to share) followed by a hearty main course like the signature spaghetti alle vongole or the succulent grilled octopus.

Osteria Il Gobbetto is a must-visit spot for anyone looking to experience the authentic flavors of Naples.

Our favourites:
  • Antipasto Del Gobbetto - a variety of different starters to share (somewhere around 10 different plates to share - it's delicious!) ~€9 per person
  • Spaghetti alle vongole (Spaghetti with clams and cherry tomatoes) ~€8
  • A bottle of House Red to share ~€5

Pizzeria Da Attilio

Pizzeria Da Attilio is a legendary pizzeria located in the heart of Naples, Italy. This family-owned restaurant has been serving up delicious Neapolitan-style pizza since 1938, and it has become a beloved institution among locals and visitors alike.

The menu features a wide variety of pizzas, including classic Margherita, but what they are really famous for are the star-shaped pizzas. These come with delicious stuffed ricotta pockets, and are absolutely incredible.

This is probably our favourite pizzeria in the whole of Naples.

Our favourites:
  • Pizza Attilio - 9 different pizza varieties on one pizza ~€10
  • Pizza Appeninni - star-shaped pizza with Ricotta pockets, and in the centre courgette and pancetta ~€10
  • A bottle of House Red to share ~€8

Mimi Alla Ferrovia

Do not, I repeat do not let the location put you off. As the name suggests, it's near the train station which is in a little bit of a dubious area, but we never felt unsafe and the food makes the journey there well worth it.

It's an elegant restaurant and we'd recommend smart casual clothing (no shorts!). It is known for its delicious and inventive Neapolitan cuisine, which features a modern twist on traditional dishes. The menu at Mimi Alla Ferrovia includes a wide range of options, from seafood and pasta to meat and vegetarian dishes, all crafted with the freshest and highest-quality ingredients.

Considering the quite fancy service and sophisticated plating, the prices were very reasonable.

Our favourites:
  • Spaghetti alle vongole (Spaghetti with clams and cherry tomatoes) ~€12
  • Candele di Gragnano con salsa alla Genovese (pasta with a delicious sauce made of meat, onions, carrot and celery) - ~€10
  • A bottle of House White to share ~€16

Starita

This iconic restaurant has been serving up delicious Neapolitan-style pizza since 1901, and it has become a beloved institution among locals and visitors alike.

The pizzas are excellent, and if you're heading to a night of Neapolitan entertainment at Napulitanata it's the perfect location for dinner beforehand.

Our favourites:
  • Pizza Margherita - tomato, mozzarella, basil ~€5
  • Pizza Marinara - tomato pulp, cherry tomatoes, garlic, basil and pecorino ~€4
  • A bottle of House Red to share ~€12-14

Pintauro

Pintauro is a historic pastry shop located in the heart of Naples, Italy. Founded in 1785, it is one of the oldest and most renowned pastry shops in the city.

If you happen to stay in self-catering accommodation (or you just don't fancy the breakfast at your hotel), we strongly recommend getting pastries from Pintauro.

Our favourites:
  • Sfogliatella (crispy puff pastry in multiple layers filled with sweet ricotta - ~€2
  • Frolla (soft pastry filled with sweet ricotta) - ~€2

L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele

I wouldn't call this place cosy or even say it has great service, however the pizzas are incredible and super cheap. The wait can be long (it's pretty famous and featured in the film "Eat Pray Love"), but there is a bar opposite to keep you hydrated while you wait. Once you arrive, grab a number (deli style) at the front door, and then wait for your number to be called. They only call them in Italian (at least when we were there), so we'd recommend to brush up on your Italian or make some friends with fellow queueing Italians that speak English!

Once inside, the choice is limited, but again, the pizzas are definitely worth it. You can choose from Margherita, Marinara, Cosacca or Marita as well as soft drinks or beer. When we were there, they didn't have wine or anything else on the menu.

Our favourites:
  • Pizza Margherita - tomato, mozzarella, basil ~€5
  • Pizza Marinara - tomato, garlic, basil ~€5
  • A bottle of Nastro Azzurro ~€3

Decumano 31

Now this is our favourite place for a quick bite or lunch whilst strolling through the old town and Spaccanapoli.

Decumano 31 is a classic Neapolitan street food place, offering a variety of deep fried dishes in paper cones. Despite it being more of a fast food place Alfredo, the owner, is super friendly and attentive.

Our favourites:
  • Il cuoppo fritto (mixed fried foods e.g. anchovies, mozzarella, prawns, dougb balls etc) ~€6
  • Alici fritte ~€5
  • Decumozzarella (a cup of deep fried mozzarella chunks) ~€5
  • A bottle of Peroni ~€2.50

Antica Pizza Fritta Da Zia Esterina Sorbillo

Antica Pizza Fritta Da Zia Esterina Sorbillo is a popular pizzeria located in Naples, Italy. This family-owned restaurant is known for its mouthwatering fried pizza, a Neapolitan specialty. The pizza dough is deep-fried until golden brown and crispy, then placed in a paper sleeve and handed over to hungry patrons.

Fried Pizza? Yes, you heard that correctly. When we heard about this for the first time, our first thought was that this could only be an abomination. However - you need to try this for yourself as it's a unique experience! We'd recommend to have this as a late night snack after a night out or after the theatre (you can see some fantastic and reasonably priced operas at Teatro San Carlo) to ensure you don't head home with an empty stomach.

The pizzas are basically deep fried calzone pizzas, and you can get a variety of different fillings.

Our favourite:
  • Pizza Meal Deal - any pizza fritta + a drink (soft drink or beer) ~€5

Casa Infante

Casa Infante is a Neapolitan Chain that has outlets spread across the city, meaning whenever you need a sweet treat, you won't be too far from one!

They serve anything from ice cream, over to pastries onto the traditional Neapolitan Babà. Neapolitan Babà is a classic dessert that has been enjoyed in Naples, Italy for centuries. This sweet treat is a type of small cake made with a yeasted dough that is soaked in a syrup made with rum or other liqueurs. The result is a deliciously moist and flavorful cake with a slightly boozy kick. Neapolitan Babà is typically served with whipped cream or pastry cream, and sometimes even topped with fruit or nuts.

Our favourite:
  • Neapolitan Babà in a cup (Pistacchio or Vanilla) - ~€3-4
  • Ice Cream - ~€2 small, €3 medium, €4 large
